Butirato (Tributirina)
Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid made by gut bacteria from fibre that feeds colon cells. In animals it stimulates GLP-1 and improves insulin sensitivity, hence the "GLP-1" marketing. Published human results are scarce: trials of sodium butyrate and tributyrin are ongoing.
What is it for?
💡 Absorption: Tributyrin and delayed-release capsules reach the gut better. Eating more fermentable fibre (legumes, oats, resistant starch) raises your own butyrate.
⚠️ Caution: May cause stomach upset and body odour (sodium butyrate). Very limited long-term safety evidence. Ask a doctor if you have inflammatory bowel disease.
Recommended doses
Range: 300 – 1500 mg
Doses in ongoing trials: 600 mg/day sodium butyrate or 500-1500 mg tributyrin
