Niacin (B3)
Vitamin B3 in two forms: niacin (nicotinic acid) and niacinamide. Essential for energy metabolism, DNA repair, and nerve function. At high doses, niacin lowers cholesterol.
💡 Absorption: Niacinamide does not cause flushing but also does not lower cholesterol. Niacin causes flushing that diminishes over time or by taking it with food.
⚠️ Caution: Flushing with niacin is common and harmless. Doses >2g/day may cause hepatotoxicity. UL: 35mg for niacinamide from diet, 2000mg in therapeutic use.
